v0.20.0 Current

7 September 2026

Rounded corners qualify for the fast grid

  • Parts with rounded corners now qualify for the fast grid layout, on the Grid and Strip tabs only. Before this, a rounded corner disqualified a part and it fell back to the slower path.
  • The Nest tab is deliberately unchanged: a true-shape nest comes out exactly as it did before.
  • No engine change.

v0.19.0

7 September 2026

The panel rebuilt on the shared BlueGrey look

  • The panel is rebuilt on the same look as our other tools: smaller type, a tighter column, and it fits its window without a scrollbar at normal size.
  • Every section now folds on its own and remembers how you left it, Estimates included.
  • Fixed: in the dark theme several labels, the panel title among them, were nearly unreadable against the dark background.
  • Columns and Stagger, which belong to Grid, were showing on every tab. They now show on Grid only.
  • No change to nesting.

v0.18.2

1 September 2026

Licence texts in the box, dead weight out

  • The licence texts for the open-source nesting libraries Nester is built on (sparrow, MIT; jagua-rs, Mozilla Public License 2.0) now ship inside the plugin folder, under licenses, with a notice that says where the source is.
  • The unused WebAssembly engine build is removed from the plugin folder. The panel has run the native engine since June and never loaded it.
  • A new automated gate proves compound paths stay compound on the plain Nest path: one item per unit, counters inside their letter after placement, rigid and unmirrored.
  • No engine change.

v0.18.1

24 August 2026

Help links from the panel

  • Every Learn more link in the panel opens the matching section of the help guide at bluegrey.ai/nester/help.
  • Estimates and Presets gained their own rows in the panel's info overlay.
  • No engine change.

v0.18.0

24 August 2026

The v1.0 finish pass

  • Estimates now reports sheets used, material used in square metres and utilisation, each one tickable per material.
  • The Advanced section is renamed Appearance. It only ever held the theme.
  • The Tidy tab and the not-yet-final dot on Nest Inside are gone: Nest Inside is a shipping mode.
  • The Estimates button is now Add estimate to artboard.
  • No engine change.

v0.17.3

2 July 2026

Grid gets Columns and Stagger

  • Columns sets how many parts per row; 0 fills the sheet width.
  • Stagger offsets every other row by half a step, and switches itself off if it would push a part off the sheet.
  • Both are saved in presets.

v0.17.2

2 July 2026

Parts that do not fit park above the sheet

  • Non-fitters stack in a tidy block above the sheet, tallest first, using the same gap as the nest.
  • Fixed: at the 64-sheet cap, parts that could not be placed were counted in a warning but not reported as unplaced. They are now.

v0.17.1

2 July 2026

Rotation controls verified honest

  • Nest, Strip and Nest Inside honour the rotation setting exactly, and an automated test now proves it on every release.
  • Grid shows a plain note that rotation is always 0 degrees, instead of a control that does nothing.

v0.17.0

2 July 2026

Mode tabs

  • The panel is organised as four tabs: Nest, Grid, Strip and Nest Inside. Each shows only its own options, and your tab is remembered.
  • Presets record the mode.
  • Grid warns up front if the parts are not rectangles.

v0.16.4

2 July 2026

Nest Inside keeps to its time budget

  • The 20 second fill budget is enforced inside the scan, so a big Nest Inside job no longer freezes the panel.
  • The status line reports how long each phase took: read, fill, solve.
  • Old diagnostic files are pruned automatically.

v0.16.3

2 July 2026

Nest Inside hardening

  • After Fill, the selection is the filled groups plus the leftovers, so Nest straight after Fill is safe.
  • A marked group with a usable hole can now be filled.
  • Marked shapes with no usable hole are explained in the status, not skipped silently.

v0.16.2

26 June 2026

Panel fixes

  • Checkbox renamed Nest inside; the Grain detail moved into an info tooltip; Mark, Show and Clear read as secondary buttons in both themes.

v0.16.1

26 June 2026

BlueGrey craft polish

  • The panel adopts the BlueGrey palette and type in both themes. Night is the default.

v0.16.0

26 June 2026

One-click containers and the auto-cascade

  • Marked containers are remembered, so you select just the parts and click Fill.
  • Mark more than one container and Nester fills the smallest first, then nests that filled group into the next biggest.

v0.15.1

26 June 2026

Groups stay rigid, compound paths stay intact

  • A group is nested by its outer silhouette as one unit. Nothing is nested into it and it is never split.
  • Compound paths keep their counters.

v0.15.0

26 June 2026

Fill one container

  • Stripped back to one primitive that has to be right: pack as many parts as fit inside one marked container's hole.

v0.14.0

26 June 2026

You mark the containers

  • Nester no longer guesses which shapes are containers. Select them and click Mark as container.

v0.13.0 to 0.13.4

26 June 2026

Nest Inside, first working builds

  • Letters with counters can be placed inside holes.
  • Recursive fills, and the hang they caused on a real job, fixed.

Before 0.13

8 June 2026

Internal builds

  • The engine integration, Place, presets, Strip mode, Estimates and materials, and the Grid fast path. Test builds inside our own workshop only.
